Biden's Immigration Policy One Year into his Administration

Abstract

This article makes an evaluation of the immigration policy of President Joe Biden. To this end, it analyzes both the immigration proposals made since his campaign through the media and the results of research carried out by academics. It also highlights the actions taken and policies adopted one year into the Biden administration to "de-trumpize" anti-immigrant policies, as well as the promises that have not yet been fulfilled. We also analyze the bilateral immigration agreements between Lopez Obrador and Trump/Biden, particularly with respect to the political and economic costs to Mexico. We recognize that he has taken constructive steps, but they are not very visible and unfulfilled promises persist. We conclude that, although initiatives have been outlined in Congress, the prospects for the passage of comprehensive immigration reform seem increasingly distant
