UNDERSTANDING DWORKIN: THE UNITY OF VALUE AND LAW AS A BRANCH OF POLITICAL MORALITY

Abstract

Background to the theme: the theory of the unity of value, presented by the American philosopher Ronald Dworkin in his final major work, Justice for Hedgehogs, 2011, is an important component of his philosophical system. Aims: the essay intends to contextualize this central thesis with previous writings of the author, seeking to provide the reader with an overall view of all his work. Methodology: the methodology is analytical, revealing the basic structure of Dworkin’s argument. Results: as a result, his well-known formulation illustrates that the Law is a branch of political morality.
