Abstract

The research on visual analytics (VA) for requirements engineering (RE) has noticeability advanced in the past few years. For many software projects, RE needs an effective and efficient path from data to decision. VA creates such a path that enables the user/requirements engineer to extract meaningful insights by interacting with the relevant requirements information. This paper focuses on VA for RE and has the following goals: investigate the VA adoption in RE and suggest important implications for practice, and identify most recent trends, open challenges, and opportunities. To achieve the goals, we performed a thorough review of literature from the past decade from 2010 to 2023 and assessed 35 studies to address three research questions. The survey results indicated that there is a lack of collaboration between RE researchers and practitioners.
