Abstract

Hot spring is commonly found in volcanic mountain areas. But in Rokan Hulu, a hot spring is found at a distance of about 15 km from the hills of Bukit Barisan. This study aims to conduct a physical study especially preliminary geomagnetic study of the Hot Spring in terms of the magnetic properties and topography of the area. As much as 26 points of the geomagnetic survey were conducted and used in this study. Some data corrections were applied to the data for making the reliable data interpretation. The results showed that there was a weakening of the magnetic field in the zone around Hot Spring itself and the low magnetic value was extended to the Southeast zone of Hot Spring. Topography shows the zone in this southeast has a height difference of fewer than 10 meters from the location of the Hot Spring. Allegedly this weak Magnetic zone is the source of heat from the Hot Spring.
