Entre o sertão e a floresta: natureza, cultura e experiências sociais de migrantes cearenses na Amazônia (1889-1916)

Abstract

O entendimento da história dos muitos migrantes cearenses que, entre 1889 e 1916, deixaram sua terra natal e aportaram em terras paraenses parece-nos indissociável de uma leitura das compreensões construídas sobre o Ceará e sobre a Amazônia, no caso aqui específico, o estado do Pará. Perceber o que significavam o Pará e o Ceará desse período é fundamental para entendermos os múltiplos sentidos presentes no ato de migrar. Um caminho profícuo para esse entendimento é o de compreender os significados atribuídos aos elementos que compunham a natureza desses dois estados.The history of the migrants who left the state of Ceará, Brazil, between 1889 and 1916, and arrived in the state of Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon region, is impossible to dissociate from a comprehension about the perceptions drew about the state of Ceará and the Amazon region themselves. To understand what represented the states of Pará and Ceará throughout this period is essential to perceive the various meanings attributed to the migration process. A fruitful path for understanding this process is to analyse the ways by which the different nature of these two places was understood and described.
