Abstract

The stability properties of subsonic mixing layers described by hyperbolic-tangent profiles of both velocity and temperature are studied. The impulse response of the flow is examined to classify the instability as being of either absolute or convective type. The boundary of the absolute-convective transition is defined as a function of the velocity ratio, the temperature ratio, and the Mach number. © 1989 American Institute of Physics.
