Abstract
Bioethanol is an alternative to reduce the use of fuel oil, based on this, research was carried out to make bioethanol from raw materials that contain lignocellulose such as cassava peel by looking at the effect of xylanase enzyme concentration and the amount of yeast. Saccharification and simultaneous fermentation were used as the method in this research and using two variables. The first variable, the enzyme silanase concentration, were 30, 50 and 75 units. The second variable, the amount of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae yeast, were 5% and 10% b/v. The first process was carried out by preparing the sample which had been dried and refined, after that thedelignification process was conducted to reduce lignin levels and then continued to the process of saccharification andsimultaneous fermentation methods, those processes were carried out 18 hours for saccharification and 96 hours for fermentation. The final results were analyzed by using gas chromatography. The use of enzyme 75 units with the amount of yeast 10% resulted highest ethanol content i.e. 3.018% while the smallest ethanol content were obtained from the use of enzymes 30 units with the amount of yeast 5%. The data showed that the use of the highest enzyme resulted the high ethanol content, as well as the amount of 10% Saccharomyces Cerevisiae yeast produces ethanol content higher than the amount of 5% Saccharomyces Cerevisiae yeast.
