Abstract
Pethia dibrugarhensis, a new species of cyprinid from the Brahmaputra River, Dibrugarh, Assam, India is described here. The new species is distinguished from its congeners based on the combination of following characters: an incomplete lateral line; a black blotch with more or less distinct extension to dorsal and ventral sides of caudal peduncle; 10 circumpeduncular scales; ½4 scales between dorsal-fin and lateral line, and 4½ between lateral line and pelvic-fin origin; absence of humeral mark and barbels.
