Abstract

Most Russian humor is political, because almost any kind of joke becomes politicized in an authoritarian society. However, the humorous concept of some Russian jokes makes them easily translatable into English. Types of jokes popular in the two countries are compared. There are very few Russian "knock knock" jokes, but elephant jokes are similar to the Russian "Armenian jokes." 2 References. B. Annesser Murray
