Abstract

This paper presents results of multi-scale investigations on granular materials behavior. The statistics of material fabric and particle interactions are analyzed using the directional statistical theory. The findings are used to establish a simplified form of the Stress-Force-Fabric (SFF) relationship, and lead to the micromechanical explanation of the mechanism of deformation non-coaxiality observed in anisotropic sands. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.
