Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the factors affecting the buying of organic foods in the A and B socio economical segments of Santiago de Surco in the period from August to September 2012. The study was of exploratory and descriptive nature. The information was obtained through personal interviews addressed to consumers from the A and B socioeconomic level of Santiago de Surco, and was applied to the person responsible for the purchase decision and preparation of food at home. The results indicated a significant percentage difference with respect to the purchase and willingness to pay a premium for organic food among the group of consumers identified according to their nutritional lifestyle and the group identified according to their sex. In the groups identified by age and level of education the difference was minimal. It is concluded that both the nutritional lifestyle -especially their emotional aspects-and gender, can affect the purchase of organic foods, in the A and B socio economical segments of Santiago de Surco.
