La prostitución en Cali a principios de siglo XX : un problema de grandes dimensiones para la salud y la higiene

Abstract

La prostitución es una temática relevante para la sociedad y para el trabajo social, y más en un contexto cercano como es la ciudad de Cali. El estudio presenta un panorama general sobre la manera cómo el discurso oficial controló la prostitución a través de la profilaxis de las enfermedades venéreas en el municipio de Cali a principios del siglo XX, al mismo tiempo que muestra cómo en la práctica, el peligro venéreo sería un síntoma auscultado por el discurso oficial y progresivamente institucionalizado y definido en el lenguaje del tratamiento médico. The prostitution is a thematic one excellent for the society and for the social work, and more in a near context as it is the city of Cali. The study presents a general panorama on the way how the official speech controlled the prostitution through the prevention of the venereal illnesses in the municipality of Cali at the beginning of the XX century, at the same time that shows how in the practice, the venereal danger would be a symptom auscultated by the official and progressively institutionalized speech and defined in the language of the medical treatment.
