Abstract

Some 2:1 (Ligand/Metal, L/M) iron complexes of malonic acid dihydrazide (MDH) and phthalic acid dihydrazide (PDH), have been prepared, viz., [ML2·2H2O]X, where X = SO42-, M = Fe(II) and [ML2·2H2O]2X3, where M = Fe(III). The complexes were investigated by magnetic susceptibility measurements and IR, electronic and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The results obtained indicate that the iron atom is coordinated octahedrally. Moreover, Fe(III) is reduced to Fe(II) in the MDH complex and Fe(II) is oxidized to Fe(III) in the PDH complex.
