Abstract

This book contains 44 chapters dedicated to the discovery and study of North American Tertiary mammals. It is a compendium of over 100 years work and gives detailed information of the distribution in time and space of each species at fossil localities. The first four chapters act as an introduction summarizing information on the geological timescale, Tertiary vegetation, and Pleistocene events. The final chapters integrate systematic and biogeographic information for higher taxa. The remaining chapters are devoted to a particular family or order and include a discussion of anatomical features, systematics, and palaeobiology.
