Abstract
Discusses a whole-language approach to teaching reading and describes a specific approach that uses a morning letter written to deaf students (aged 10 yrs) to preview the day's events. This letter uses vocabulary and syntax in accordance with students' reading ability (1.2-1.4 grade level). Through group reading, students are encouraged to apply various reading strategies in a natural context. Teachers guide students as they explore their reading skills.
