Abstract

This article proposes to review some of the methods potential to characterize different water systems that have dissimilar hydrol. and geog. features and different sources of water pollution. Prior to this, theor. aspects of fluorescence spectroscopy as potential tool for in-situ monitoring of dissolved org. matter (DOM) in surface water systems was described. Fluorescence fingerprints are very useful in establishing the natural characteristics of the water body, the quantity and quality of DOM and the relative proportions of terrestrially and microbially derived components.
