Abstract

Forty types of optic disc anomalies were studied by kinetic perimetry, including some by static perimetry, and observed under red-free illumination. All of them exhibited good visual acuity and interesting visual field defects. Under red-free illumination definite or indistinct defects of the nerve fiber layer were observed in most cases. Forms of visual field defects were as follows: A case of micropapilla showed a small oval remnant of intact central field and irregular islands of upper and temporal peripheral fields. A case of megalopapilla showed unilateral regular enlargement of Mariotte's blind spot on the affected eye. A case of tilted disc showed bilateral characteristic cecocentral scotomas with intact peripheral fields. A case of partial hypoplasia of the optic disc showed unilateral paracentral depression on internal isopters on the affected eye. The anomalies of the optic disc may be well-viewed by ophthalmoscopic examination, and may require careful quantitative perimetry and red-free light ophthalmoscopic examinations.
