Transforming Assessment through Digital Technologies: Exploring Alternative Approaches in Education

Abstract

This paper, which centres on five assessment modes that digital technologies now enable—namely e-portfolios that chronicle growth, interactive quizzes that give instantaneous feedback, platforms that let learners appraise both themselves and peers, virtual laboratories that replicate authentic experiments, and digital storytelling that weaves multimodal narratives—argues, through evidence gleaned from ten recent studies, that such methods, which transcend traditional, memory-centred examinations, nurture the personalised, reflective and inclusive learning that twenty-first-century contexts demand.
