Hormones in Poultry Production: Scientific Facts

Abstract

For decades the false information about hormones used in poultry production filled the imagination of the consumer. There are many researches on this subject, but none of them were able to prove the efficiency of such hormones as growth promoters in poultry. Despite the large amount of technical information on the matter, this hardly comes to the general public, including the human health professionals. Researchers are also encouraged to conduct research to prove the existence of such residues in the carcass of these animals. However, their searches are unsuccessful. Due to these facts, it is necessary to gather all the technical and scientific apparatus regarding this controversial matter. Therefore the use of exogenous hormones in broiler production is also not illegal, but also impracticable both technically and economically. The myth of the existence of hormone residues spreads extensively in the world. By assembling scientific information, and together with a correct divulgation, it is possible a long-term work to elucidate this misconception. Efforts are necessary not only from the scientific press, but also from the common means of communication thus allowing a disclosure of quality information grounded in scientific facts.
