Abstract
Spain is portrayed as a country of many contrasts, landscapes, traditions and degrees of economic development. Attention is drawn to conditions in the major cities (Madrid, Barcelona) and the other component regions, with problems ranging from deindustrialisation to over-exposure to tourism. The question of what "authentic' Spain may be is raised and examined in the specific context of tourism development and tourists' experiences. -H.Clout
