Abstract

ABSTRACT Poor glycemic control and long-standing diabetes increase the risk of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Consistent and regular glycemic control is needed to prevent diabetic peripheral neuropathy complications. The purpose of this study  was  to  determine  the  relationship  between  glycemic  control  and duration of diabetes with the incidence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy at Dr. Bratanata Hospital, Jambi City. Type of quantitative research with descriptive correlative design and cross sectional approach. Population of diabetes mellitus patients at the diabetes polyclinic of Dr. Bratanata Hospital, Jambi City. Sample 72 respondents with purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were glycemic control observation sheets and Neuropathy Symptom Score (NSS) questionnaires. Univariate data analysis using frequency distribution and bivariate analysis using chi-square test. A total of 18 respondents   had   no   diabetic   neuropathy   (25.0%),   mild   neuropathy   9 respondents (12.5%), moderate neuropathy 14 respondents (19.1%), and severe neuropathy  31  respondents  (43.1%).  Bivariate  analysis,  glycemic  control (fasting blood sugar and 2-hour postprandial blood sugar) obtained a value of (p = 0.000), glycemic control (HbA1c) obtained a value of (p = 0.000), and length of diabetes obtained a value of (p = 0.001). This shows that there is a relationship between glycemic control and duration of diabetes with the incidence of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Keywords:  Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, Duration of Diabetes, Glycemic Control  ABSTRAK Kontrol glikemik yang buruk dan lama menderita diabetes meningkatkan risiko neuropati perifer diabetik.
