Abstract

Energy drinks are popular beverages among children and adolescents. Several case reports suggest an association between the consumption of energy drinks and the occurrence of adverse cardiovascular events in minors. In this article, which summarizes the results of the EDUCATE study, the acute effects of energy drink consumption on the cardiovascular function of children and adolescents are concisely portrayed. In addition to this study, a treatment report of refractory ventricular fibrillation after energy drink consumption in a female adolescent with healed myocarditis is described.
