University management assists in disaster reduction: strategies, innovation and resilience

Abstract

Introduction: This research analyzes the role of university management in disaster risk reduction, emphasizing its capacity to generate knowledge, foster innovation, and train professionals committed to risk management, within the framework of international initiatives such as the Sendai Framework 2015–2030. Methodology: A bibliometric analysis was conducted using data extracted from the Scopus database, covering a total of 174 relevant articles on disaster risk management in the university context. Results: The findings identify various thematic clusters grouping studies focused on risk assessment, climate change, disaster management, public health, and human behavior. Discussion: These results show that university management can integrate multiple disciplinary approaches, reinforcing its strategic role in helping communities adapt to natural and social threats. Conclusions: It is concluded that universities have strong potential to actively contribute to resilience and sustainability by incorporating risk management into their academic, research, and community engagement functions.
