Abstract

The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is one of the most advanced container terminals in Malaysia. It is the country’s top transhipment port, providing facilities, equipment, and information technology systems that integrate all users. In the port industry, it is necessary to emphasise the use of occupational safety and health to ensure that the industry is successful, safe, efficient and sustainable. Occupational safety and health are one of the most important aspects to protect the welfare of prime mover drivers. Driving prime movers in a port is a hazardous occupation, and although many rules and safety equipment exist, many accidents resulting in life-long effects on drivers continue to occur. This study aims to determine the hazard identification, Risk Assessment And Risk Control (HIRARC) for prime movers at PTP. Generally, this research focuses on three objectives, namely to identify and evaluate risks that prime mover drivers face in PTP and suggest countermeasures. This study uses a quantitative approach to obtain information about HIRARC for safety and health of prime mover drivers. Research findings are used to develop preventive measures to maximise safety and resolve security issues.
