Abstract

Closed-form expressions are derived that eliminate the need to use numerical integration when computing the Lorentz force and torque in the method of moments-based models of low-frequency magnetic components (i.e., electric machinery). A permanent- magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) is used as an example system to illustrate the applicability of closed-form expressions and to validate them. Validation is provided by comparing the results to those obtained using a commercial finite element-based model.
