This paper proposes a theoretical discussion about the dilemmas and perspectives of participatory management in the context of sustainable tourism through the proposed of community -based tourism. As a synthesis, it´s evidenced the premise of importance of social participation in the current systemic configuration of tourism in which the activity is overcoming the merely economic image to get new dimensions, transversalities and interdependencies.
