Abstract
Background: Hypothermia is a common complication in post-anesthesia patients. Hypothermia negative impacts on patients, including increased potential for bleeding, cardiac ischemia, slow wound healing, a long recovery time, and increased susceptibility to infection. Body mass index (BMI) is one of the factors that influences the risk of hypothermia during anesthesia and surgery. Objective: To determine the relationship between body mass index and hypothermia in post-spinal anesthesia patients. Methods: The research in this study used a quantitative method and a cross-sectional analytical correlation design. The sampling technique used in this study was non-probability sampling with a purposeful sampling technique. The IBS Room of Caruban Hospital, East Java, was used as the place for this research, which will be conducted on February 12–April 12, 2024. The number of samples used in the study was 27. The data analysis technique used was the Spearman correlation test. Results: The majority of hypothermia was experienced by IMT in the normal category, namely 7 respondents with a percentage (25.9%). Based on the results of the Spearman correlation test analysis, the sig value (2-tailed) is 0.003 <0.05, which means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Conclusion: There is a relationship between body mass index and hypothermia in post-spinal anesthesia patients.
