Abstract
Halitosis is a frequent complaint at Primary Health Care. Oral malodor is a common symptom of many mouth diseases, but may also indicates other nonoral sources, even a serious systemic illness. So, treatment of halitosis includes oral hygiene and, ocasionally, an specific treatment directed to underlying cause. This review insists on pertinent diagnosis and treatment of halitosis because its large socioeconomic and health care consequences when diagnosis is delayed.
