Abstract

Cassava was known and have been cultivated by Indonesian peoples for years. As source of carbohy- drate, the cassava was widely used as foods, feeds as well as raws materials for industries. In general production and productivity of cassava for the last ten years (1999–2007) were showed a positive growth although in term of the harvested areas are fluctu- ated. Along with the food diversification programs which promote other source for carbohydrate than rice, the development of feed and other cassava based chemical industries (include bio-ethanol industries), the demand of cassava sharply increased. Therefore, the cassava should be developed through increasing productivity and extented of the harvesting areas. The availability of cassava improved varieties and its production technology, areas for extensification and open market for cassava, therefore there are a great chance for the development of cassava.
