A unique collaboration to promote sustainability for pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals: The GSK-Singapore Partnership for Green and Sustainable Manufacturing

Abstract

The GSK-Singapore Partnership for Green and Sustainable Manufacturing is a public-private partnership with the objectives of: • Enhancing Singapore's capabilities to address the sustainable manufacturing challenges experienced by the pharmaceutical industry. • Strengthening the partnership between universities, research institutes and companies through interdisciplinary research in sustainability • Developing innovative solutions in sustainability through interdisciplinary research to establish Singapore as a leader in sustainability for pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing. Since the official launch in January 2010, the partnership has had two calls for proposals that have awarded 22 grants in 7 research areas with a total investment of about S$13.5 million. It has also organized its first symposium for scientific exchange amongst the grantees and members of the Scientific Advisory Board, an Industrial Advisory Group and a Steering Team. This article describes the development, scope, current progress and future outlook of this Partnership for Green and Sustainable Manufacturing.
