Abstract

The current status of oil spill modeling is presented. The physical and chemical processes taking place in oil spills are explained for the design of an ideal oil spill model (IOSM). The requirements of an IOSM for forecasting are rapid response, contingency planning and training. The use of parallel computation techniques in oil spill modeling is introduced and delineated. © 1994.
