Decoding leadership in tourism and hospitality: A bibliometric insight from 2010 to 2024

Abstract

The study aims to explore in-depth mapping and provide an overview of the direction of leadership style research in the tourism and hospitality sector. To achieve this goal, this study will use a bibliometric analysis approach. The data source used is secondary data, where the secondary data used are articles in the Scopus database. Data analysis is carried out using VosViewer software. The results showed that eight clusters explain the research topics that have been carried out related to leadership in the tourism and hospitality sector, namely, the first cluster (tourism management, tourism development, tourism policy), second cluster (service quality, green creativity, sustainability), third cluster (complexity leadership, empowering leadership, organizational learning), fourth cluster (authentic leadership, ethical leadership), fifth cluster (entrepreneurship, turnover intention, working conditions), sixth cluster (job crafting, and work engagement), the seventh cluster (innovation, knowledge management, tourism economy), eighth cluster (transactional leadership, transformational leadership). In addition, based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that there are several themes or research topics in the future that are interesting to be examined in the context of leadership style in tourism and hospitality, namely, empowering leadership, complexity leadership, organizational learning, and sustainable tourism.
