Activity evaluation of ginger (Zingiber officinale) alcoholic extract against Candida albicans

Abstract

Current study was highlighted to find out the inhibitory effect of the alcoholic extract of Ginger against Candida albicans isolated from mouth area and around teeth through the period from 1 Dec.2017 until 27 Feb.2018. Different concentration of alcoholic extract of Ginger were tested on the C.albicans yeast by well diffusion assayand microdilution assay. The results showed that concentrations of (50, 100 and 150) mg.mi-1 of the crude extract gave inhibition zone diameter rates. (18, 21 and 25) mm respectively, and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was(25) mg.ml-1 against the yeast cells. Concentration. (12.5, 25 and 50) mg.ml-1 were used to study the activity of the extract on biofilm. From the current study, we concluded that, the high efficiency of alcoholic extract of Ginger against the C.albicans L, suggesting the possibility of its use as a treatment for patients with Candidiasis.
