Abstract
Organic polyamine-based macrocycles have been at the centre of interest as receptors for anionic species for more than 30 years. A synopsis of methods for their synthesis as well as an overview of their anion binding properties is given. The species are categorized according to their charge and their special geometrical and binding features. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
