Abstract

Nanotechnology has shown a rapid and remarkable progress in the last years, providing great benefits for several industrial sectors. There are a great number of nanotechnology concepts, which have been developed and demonstrated through academic and industrial R&D projects. These innovative concepts are based on new technologies to improve the performance and reliability of conventional materials, mainly by nanoparticles incorporation. Energy industry has been favored by the development of these innovative nanomaterials since they offer unique opportunities to ensure reliability, increase efficiency, sustainability, and security of the electricity network system. In this section, recent achievements regarding advanced nanotechnology-based materials for high-voltage applications are reviewed and reported. The properties and characteristics of innovative nanomaterials are discussed and compared with conventional materials. Finally, opportunities for technological breakthroughs of nanomaterials for high-voltage apparatus are shown.
