Abstract
The author reflects on the simulation training for emergency medicine (EM) residents. He notes that diversity of preceptors, varying learner experience, opportunistic procedural skill performance and haphazard evaluation confuses proper learning and assessment on EM rotations. He stresses that EM residents may have any number of preceptors over the course of their training that limit longitudinal observation and the evaluation of procedural skill competence.
