Abstract
The peel of the lontar fruit (Borassus flabellifer L.) contains various bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins, which possess medicinal properties. This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of lontar fruit peel extract against Staphylococcus aureus and to determine its optimal inhibitory concentration. The extract was prepared at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. An experimental method was employed using the paper disk diffusion technique on nutrient agar (NA) medium, with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as the negative control. The test samples were incubated for 24 hours at room temperature. The results showed that the extract at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% produced total inhibition zone diameters of 44.6 mm, 45.3 mm, and 52 mm, respectively, with corresponding average inhibition zones of 14.8 mm, 15.1 mm, and 17.3 mm. These findings indicate that lontar fruit peel extract exhibits strong antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.
