Efficacy of Different Insecticides Against Plutella xylostella under Field Conditions

Abstract

In this study different insecticides were tested under field condition on cabbage, Brassica oleracea var. capitata (spinosad; Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki; chlorpyrifos, Lorsban; lufenuron, Match 50 EC; Nimbokil; chlorpyrifos-methyl; profenofos, Curacron 50 EC; and avermectin [abamectin]. Agrimek 1.8EC) and cauliflower, Brassiaca oleracea var. botrytis (profenofos, lufinuron, Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki, spinosad and cyhalothrin (Karate 2EC)) at vegetable fields of TandoAllhayar district Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India in 1999 and 2000. Pretreatment observations were recorded one day before treatment and posttreatment ones were recorded after 96 h, and seven days in the first and second sprays, respectively. Avermectin was most effective when applied on cabbage in the first and second sprays against diamond back moth, where as Bacillus thuringiensis and spinosad remained effective in both sprays after 96 h and during the seven days interval on cauliflower compared to other insecticides. It was concluded that Bacillus thuringiensis, avermectin and spinosad were more effective compared with other insecticides tested in the present study.
