Abstract

Keir C. Neuman and co‐workers describe in article number 1801252 a simple and robust method to encapsulate fluorescent nanodiamonds in a self‐assembled polydopamine shell. Functionalizing the polydopamine surface with thiol containing groups such as PEG‐thiol enhances the colloidal stability and facilitates cellular uptake of the fluorescent nanodiamonds. The polydopamine encapsulation and subsequent modular functionalization process open a route to the facile production of functionalized fluorescent nanodiamonds for in vivo and in vitro imaging applications.
