Abstract
In this chapter, the authors present current research on the visual system, with an emphasis on the aspects that contribute to spatial abilities. The authors first look at how vision is processed in the nervous system. Then the authors focus on two important roles of the spatial aspects of vision. One is its part in controlling our movements in the environment, and the other is the contribution of visual-spatial abilities to cognition.
