Abstract

Insularia is a complex of forms in B, betularia ranging continuously between the paler, typical form and the black carbonaria. It appears that at least three alleles at the same locus as carbonaria control the insularia forms. Carbonaria is dominant to all insularia and to typical. The insularia forms show incomplete dominance; individuals carrying two insularia alleles are usually darker than corresponding insularia/typical heterozygotes. © 1977 The Genetical Society of Great Britain.
