Abstract

The ornamental pineapple plant Ananas comosus (L.) Merr. var. ananassoides (Baker) Coppens & F. Leal., belongs to the Bromeliaceae family, standing out for its ornamental potential, which is little explored economically. In vitro propagation allows a high production of pathogens-free plants. The objective of this work was to evaluate the different concentrations of 6-benzilaminopurine (BAP) and naphthalene acetic acid (ANA) in the process of in vitro propagation of Ananas comosus var. ananassoides. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with a 4 × 4 factorial scheme, consisting of four BAP concentrations (0; 0.5; 1.0 and 2.0 mg L-1) and four ANA concentrations (0; 0.25; 0.5 and 1.0 mg L-1). According to the results, the addition of 1.0 mg L-1 of BAP promoted the highest number of sprouts. The highest average sprout length was obtained in the absence of BAP and the highest root number was obtained with the addition of 0.25 mg L-1 of ANA, in the absence of BAP.
