Abstract
We report a case of epithelioid sarcoma along with its immunohistochemical and ultrastructual findings. A 30-year-old Russian man, had an ulcerating tumor measuring 42x37 mm in size on his left wrist at the flexor surface for the past 8 years. He was operated on 4 times previously in the USSR, however, the tumor usually recurred. A histological examination revealed a mass of polygonal atypical cells which had eosinophilic cytoplasm in the dermis. Electron microscopic studies demonstrated ovoid to polygonal-shaped cells with highly atypical nuclei and abundant cytoplasm, the proliferating cells were characterized by an abundance of intermediate filaments. Immunohistochemically, the proliferating cells were positive for EMA, vimentin, and keratin, but negative for S-100 protein and desmin. © 1994, Western Division of Japanese Dermatological Association.
