El abordaje integral del binomio Tuberculosis/Diabetes Mellitus como área de oportunidad en la sobrevida del paciente

Abstract

Among the clinically relevant risk factors for acquiring tuberculosis is Diabetes Mellitus (DM), which is also considered a worldwide epidemic. This affects the deterioration of the patient's immune system and can also have a negative impact on the patient's therapeutic success and survival. A preliminary analysis conducted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) indicates that more than 30,000 cases of tuberculosis are related to diabetes mellitus in the Americas each year. It has been observed that the abandonment of anti-tuberculosis treatment and lack of adherence to anti-diabetic treatment has serious connotations, among them the physical deterioration of the patient and the possibility of stimulating bacterial resistance mechanisms, identified by the spread of the infection and perpetuating the existence of this disease.Dentro de los factores de riesgo de relevancia clínica para adquirir tuberculosis se encuentra la Diabetes Mellitus (DM), que es considerada también como una epidemia mundial. Lo que afecta el deterioro del sistema inmunológico del paciente y que además puede repercutir de forma negativa en el éxito terapéutico y sobrevida del paciente. Resultado de un análisis preliminar realizado por la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) indica que más de 30,000 casos de tuberculosis se relacionan con la diabetes mellitus en las Américas cada año Se ha observado que el abandono del tratamiento antituberculoso y falta de adherencia al tratamiento antidiabético trae connotaciones graves, entre ellos el deterioro físico del paciente y la posibilidad de estimular los mecanismos de resistencia bacteriana, identificados de la propagación de la infección y perpetuando la existencia de esta enfermedad
