Abstract
The large-sized cricetid rodents (Tribe Cricetodontini) are of primary importance in the biostratigraphy of the Middle Miocene in Hungary. Cricetodon hungaricus is especially remarkable due to its original morphology and stratigraphic range. New excavations in the type locality of the species, namely Hasznos (Nógrád County, Hungary; Middle Badenian, MN 6) resulted in the acquisition of important new fossil material. The aim of this contribution in honor of Prof. O. Fejfar is to provide a detailed description, emended diagnosis and detailed comparison of the Cricetodon material with a taxonomical, biogeographical and paleoenvironmental context.
