Abstract

The article focuses on the patron-driven acquisitions (PDA) observed by the Eastern Michigan University for its electronic book (eBook) collection. It cites several factors as to why libraries are directing their attention to PDA which include decreasing acquisition budgets, cost of storing volumes and declining print circulation. It notes that Eastern Michigan University decided to launch a pilot program under which three short-term loan (STL) systems were purchased from online digital library ebrary while the existing approval/slip plan with YBP was reviewed. Complications of PDA cited include nonfunctional links to contents and the paper formats of STL invoices.
