Abstract

In Mesopotamia, like many other topics, information on pregnancy and childbirth is also recorded on cuneiform script tablets. This information has spread over a wide area from medicine to law, magic to divination. For example, one of the tablets included some applications specifically designed to determine pregnancy. Only the health status of pregnant women and babies were mentioned in some of the medicine tablets. Considering the physical features of the pregnant woman, estimates about the gender of the baby were also included in the same tablets. In order to facilitate difficult birth, medicines and ointments were prepared from various plants. In addition, magic was used for a significant part of the treatment.
