Entre anjos e demônios: a série de Novíssimos de Carabuco / Between Angels and Demons: The “Novissimi” Series from Carabuco

Abstract

Os Novíssimos são uma doutrina da Igreja Católica. Postrimerías é o seu equivalente na língua espanhola, sendo o termo que dá nome a uma série de pinturas hispano-americanas. O presente trabalho discutirá uma dessas séries – o ciclo de Carabuco – como uma das mais importantes produções artísticas do Vice-Reino do Peru. The Novissimi constitute a doctrine from the Catholic Church. Postrimerías is the Spanish equivalent, and defines a series of paintings we may find in America. This paper shall discuss one of these series – the Carabuco cycle – as one of the most important artistic achievements in the Viceroyalty of Peru.
