Overview on Municipal Solid Waste

Abstract

Waste generation around the globe has been enormous in past decades, and also growing rapidly. From statistical data, it is found that every waste generated around the globe is two billion metric tons and it will increase by 70% in 2050. As we all know, municipal solid waste is generated from households, hospitals, and business areas. The items can be paper, cardboard, clothes, kitchen waste, other miscellaneous waste, hospital waste, and a few business scrapes. It is said that each EU citizen produces on average more than 500 kg of MSW a year. Disposing of this effectively involves tedious processing as the material properties differ from each other. The disposing methods are evolving day by day with the help of government and non-government organization. This book chapter proposes to present collective data on municipal solid waste, types of municipal solid waste, policies promulgate with municipal solid waste, effective disposing methods of MSW and how government has established seven-step plans.
