Abstract

The hydrogen outgassing of a Pd-H specimen is greatly accelerated by the presence of oxygen. Details of the outgassing process of Pd-H systems are investigated by gravimetric method as a function of lapse time and of various atmospheric conditions. The acceleration of the outgassing by oxygen was restricted when the palladium specimen is exposed with a preferred surface orientation (111). The face denendence and acceleration mechanism have been discussed on the basis of surface science. © 2008 The Japan Institute of Metals.
